Otto II of Saxony was born in 955, died 983. He was the son of emperor Otto I the Great and Saint Adelaide of Italy.

Otto II of Saxony was born in 955, acceeded as emperor in 973, and died in Rome 983. He was the son of emperor Otto I the Great and Saint Adelaide of Italy.

In 972 Otto II married Theophanu Skleros of Byzantium. Upon the death of his father in 973, Otto II acceeded as emperor of the Holy Roman Empire. Otto II and Theophanu had three daughters: :Sophia, Abbess of Gandersheim born 978 :Adelaide, Abbess of Quedlinburg, born 977 and :Matilda of Saxony, Princess, born 978 They had a son Otto III of Saxony, later Holy Roman Emperor, born 980.
