Otto II of Saxony was born in 955, acceeded as emperor in 973, and died in Rome 983. He was the son of emperor Otto I the Great and Saint Adelaide of Italy.
In 972 Otto II married Theophanu Skleros of Byzantium. They had 3 daughters (Adelaide, Abbess of Quedlinburg, born 977; Sophia, Abbess of Gandersheim, born 978; and Matilda of Saxony, born 978) and a son, Otto III of Saxony, born 980.
