Homer is the series' main character. At one point it was indicated that he was 38 years old, but characters do age within the series; in another episode he takes a quiz that indicates he will die at 42 and wails that he has only three years to live. (However, note that Homer's ability to do mental arithmetic is not necessarily reliable.)
He works in /Charles Montgomery Burns's Nuclear Power Plant, if you can call it "working" at all. While he is not the brightest guy, he can get very emotional, especially when it comes to his neighbor, /Ned Flanders or to troubles related to Bart. He spends most of his time at Moe's Bar (see /Moe Szyslak) with his friends /Carl, /Lenny and /Barney Gumble. His hobbies include heavy drinking (esp. Duff Beer), television and whatever can create a good storyline for the episode.
On the food front he is particularly fond of doughnuts and also of pork chops; his diet is not a good example to younger viewers and this point is frequently made throughout the series.
His highschool yearbook quote was "I can't believe I ate the whole thing", and it was in high school where Homer met Marge?, who he later married.
