Until the creation of the [/Super Star Destroyer]?, the largest mobile ship in the entire Star Wars universe. 1600 m long, and carrying thousands of troops and large complements of starfighters, the Star Destroyer ships are actually more analagous to a naval aircraft carrier than a destroyer. They usually carry the Admiral in charge of operations. Star Destroyers are seen in all three movies of the original trilogy. Some are destroyed when their weak point is detected - they are shielded by an (unexplained) energy field generated by two towers on their highest point. Once these are destroyed, the ship becomes highly vulnerable. |

The Star Destroyer ships are actually more analagous to a naval aircraft carrier than a destroyer. They usually carry the Admiral in charge of operations. Star Destroyers are seen in all three movies of the original trilogy. Some are destroyed when their weak point is detected - their bridge module protrudes above the main body and is therefore more vulnerable to attack. Once the bridge with the command crew is destroyed, the ship becomes nearly defenseless. |
