The axon is the part of a neuron that transmits impulses away from the cell body. Axons may or may not be coated by a sheat called myelin. Ones coated with myelin are capable of much quicker nerve impulse transmission. Both myelinated and nonmyelinated axons and dendrites form nerve fibers. |
