Showing revision 3
The Rev. Sun Myung Moon was born in what is now North Korea. On May 1, 1954, in Seoul, South Korea, he established the Holy Spirit Association for the Unification of World Christianity, known simply as of the Unification Church.

The Chinese charecter "Moon" means "word" or "truth" in Korean. The character "myung" means bright or shining, and is composed of the Chinese characters for sun and moon, so word play on Rev. Moon's name provides a source of innocent merriment.

As a youngster, Moon was known for his cheerful attitude, as well as his intolerance of injustice, characteristics he maintains into his eighties.

To be continued . . .

Needs more personal history. What did he do before starting the church? Education, work, Korean War, escape from work camp.

Needs religious background. Parents' religion, early musings, pre-church ministry, decision to create a church.

Then the ticklish task of describing his leadership of the Unification Church, with the subtask of dividing this into the church and Moon articles.
