Showing revision 1
Founder of the Unification Church, the Rev. Sun Myung Moon was born in what is now North Korea. On May 1, 1954, he established the Holy Spirit Association for the Unification of World Christianity in Seoul, South Korea. (Church members and others alike find the shorter term more convenient.)

As a boy, Moon's given name was Sun Yong. On reaching adulthood, following an oriental traditional practice, he changed his name to its present form. Moon means "word" or "truth" in Korean, and its resemblence in English to earth's satellite provides a source of innocent merriment. As a youngster, Moon was known for his cheerful attitude, as well as his intolerance of injustice, characteristics he maintains into his eighties.

To be continued . . .

Needs more personal history. What did he do before starting the church? Education, work, Korean War.

Needs religious background. Parents' religion, early musings, pre-church ministry, decision to create a church.

Then the ticklish task of describing his leadership of the Unification Church, with the subtask of dividing this into the church and Moon articles.
