Stratego is a strategy board game featuring a 10 by 10 square board and two players with 40 pieces each. One player is red, one player is blue.

Pieces are hidden from the opponent, and much of the game is decided before any moves actually takes place, since each player can arrange his 4 by 10 block of pieces in any internal configuration he wants.

Each player can move one piece one square per turn. If a piece moved into a square occupied by an opposing piece, their identities are revealed, and the weakest piece is removed from the board.

For most pieces, the rank alone determines the outcome, but there are special pieces such as bombs (which only miners can defuse, but are unable to move) and a spy (which wins any attack, but loses any defense).

The object of the game is to find and capture the opponents flag piece.

The game was invented by the Milton Bradley Company, and first published in 1961 (although it was trademarked in 1960).
