Sanity

Sanity: the quality of a sound or healthy mind, rationality?, the ability to discern right and wrong. Sanity is generally defined by the absence of insanity?, which is an old pejorative term for mental illness.

Sanity is sometimes used as an engineering term to mean "internal consistency", as in the phrase "saity check". This has led to pins on integrated circuits being labeled "LOS": "loss of sanity".
