Boötes (the herdsman) is one of the 88 modern constellations and was also one of the 48 constellations listed by Ptolemy. It contains the bright star Arcturus.

The constellation is located between 0° and +60° declination, 13 and 16 hours of right ascension on the [celestial sphere]?.

According to Greek Mythology, Bootes was a man who was robbed by his brother of everything he had. He then wandererd all over the earth. At one point, he invented the plough, which is seen in the constellation, as are the two oxen which pulled it.
