Jack Ryan, a character invented by
Tom Clancy and appearing in most of his novels. A former marine lieutenant, he is recruited by the CIA in Patriot Games, helps a Soviet missile sub defect in The Hunt for the Red October, etc.
His wife is an eye surgeon.
