* [Tim Berners-Lee's 1998 roadmap paper]

The Semantic Web is Tim Berners-Lee's vision of the future of the World Wide Web.

In the Semantic Web vision, Web pages contain XML (or XHTML) content which has been 'marked up' with semantic information about the meaning of the contents of the documents.

This would allow the Web to be more meaningful to computers, which would then be able to act as [autonomous agents]? on the behalf of Mankind.
