Luhmann was born in Lüneburg, Germany. He studied law first and was then active as an administration expert. Luhmann conducted his research activity at the beginning of the 1960s, and graduated the sociology program at the University of Münster in 1966. Starting in 1968 he lectured sociology at the [University of Bielefeld]?, Germany.
Luhmann wrote prolifically, with more than three dozen books published.
