Ceawlin was Bretwalda? from 560 to 591?, and king of the West Saxons, or Wessex. Led the combined Saxon armies in the decisive [Battle of Deorham]? in 577. This resulted in the splitting of the Cornish Celts from the Welsh Celts, with the capture of most of the land surrounding Gloucester, Cirencester, Bristol and Bath.
