Web commerce is an extension of Electronic commerce. It refers to the area of business which is conducted primarily through the World Wide Web, but may also utilize [electronic mail]? and other aspects of the Internet.

Stores set up [Web sites]? to display their goods, or in some case, services. Consumers then access the site with [Web browsers]? and make selections. Payment can be handled in a variety of ways, including [credit card]?, mailed cheque?, or a phone call to a 900? number.

In the instances of credit card payment, the shopkeeper will employ some advanced security technique such as SSL sockets or TLS? sockets to encrypt the purchaser's sensitive information.
