Techno is a form of
electronic music featuring fast regular beats, similar to
trance but lacking the features that distuinguish trance from techno. Originally developed by a small group of African American men and boys in
Detroit, Michigan as an offshoot of the emerging
Chicago House scene, techno quickly took on an international following and helped lay the groundwork for
Acid House and the emergence of the Rave
? scene. Though initially conceived of as party music and played at such all-ages Detroit clubs as the world famous Music Institute, many originators and newcomers alike soon began speaking of techno primarily as an expression of [Future Shock]
? and post-industrial angst.
The term "techno" is often used to describe electronic dance music as a whole by the uninitiated.
