As a boy, Moon's given name was Sun Yong. On reaching adulthood, following an oriental traditional practice, he changed his name to its present form. Moon means "word" or "truth" in Korean, and its resemblence in English to earth's satellite provides a source of innocent merriment. As a youngster, Moon was known for his cheerful attitude, as well as his intolerance of injustice, characteristics he maintains into his eighties.
