The
Germanic language spoken by the
Vikings. Its modern descendants are
Icelandic,
Norwegian,
Swedish and
Danish. Of the four, Icelandic has changed the least from
Old Norse in the last thousand years. It also had an influence on
English dialects, particularly
Scots which contains many Old Norse loan words.
