MONETA NOVA or New Money was the name for the coins of the Holy Roman Empire. The silver coins were called Moneta Nova Argenteus. A coin stated further what city or CIVITATIS it was stamped in.

The city of Dortmund for example had coins stating as follows : MONETA NOVA CIVITATIS IMPER. TREMONIENSIS.

It also stated the ruler at that time. Often abbreviations were used, because there was not enough room for full descriptions on a coin.

Some coins were as follows : Taler ,Thaler Dollar Ducat, Dukat Schilling Ferding Florin Artig Dreipolcher d'or Gulden Batzen Groschen (Grossi, Groescher) Pfennig Penny?

Earlier Holy Roman Empire coins were called Denars and Brakteats.
