Diacylglycerole is a
second messenger molecule made by
phospholipase C (a
membrane-bound
enzyme), together with
inosite triphosphate. While the latter diffuses into the cytosole
?, diacylglycerole stays close to the
plasma membrane due to its
hydrophobic properties. It has two major functions in the
cell:
- It serves as a source for prostaglandine?s.
- It stimulates protein kinase C.
