The Chlorophyceae are one of the classes of
green algae, distinguished manly on the basis of ultrastructural morphology. They are divided into the following groups:
- Order Dunaliellales?
- Order Chalmydomonadales? (e.g. Chlamydomonas)
- Order Volvocales? (e.g. Pandorina, Pleodorina, Volvox)
- Order Chlorococcales? (e.g. Chlorella)
- Order Tetrasporales? (e.g. Tetraspora)
- Order Chlorosarcinales?
- Order Sphaeropleales?
- Order Microsporales?
- Order Oedogoniales? (e.g. Oedogonium)
- Order Cylindrocapsales?
- Order Chaetophorales?
In older classifications, the term Chlorophyceae is sometimes used to apply to all the green algae except the Charales?, and the internal division is considerably different.
