In humans, a gland on top of each kidney consisting of two parts:

The [adrenal medulla]? ([zona glomerulosa]?) is part of the sympathetic nervous system. It secretes hormones into the blood - adrenaline (epinephrine) and noradrenaline? (norepinephrine?).

The [adrenal cortex]? ([zona fasciculata]?) is a [endocrine gland]? activated by [adrenocorticotrophic hormone]? sent out from the anterior lobe of the [pituitary gland]?. It secretes hormones, called steroid?s - glucocorticoids?, mineralocorticoids? and androgens?.
