Media slogans
Various slogans and captions appeared on various media to brand coverage of the terrorist attack, its afteraffects, and the response. The slogans appeared on the bottom of the television screen, in a red, white, and blue motif, sometimes with an explicit graphic of the American flag.

- Attack on America: A Special Report (ATTACK ON AMERICA in black bold sans-serif, above a dark red rule, above A SPECIAL REPORT in black light small-caps serif, on a white or light gray background)
- A Nation Challenged (The Times' 'B' section dealing exclusivly with the war on terrorism, and homeland security)
- Day of Terror
- Portraits of Grief ( A series that does a small paragraph on every single victim of the World Trade Center disaster)

- America's New War (AMERICA'S in white serif font on red background, NEW WAR in black sans-serif on white)
CNN International
Fox News
- War on Terror (WAR in silver (vertical gradient from blue-gray to white) small caps bold serif, ON same as WAR but half-size, Terror in same gradient, typewriter-style serif, with horizontal red scribble behind terror, on stylized photographic flag background)
MSNBC
- America on Alert (blue background, with a row of white stars above the text and red-white-blue memorial ribbon to the left; AMERICA in white serif font, ON smaller black sans-serif on yellow swatch, ALERT in red sans-serif on white swatch)
The Onion parodied this phenomenon with their own slogan, "Holy Fucking Shit: Attack On America" (HOLY FUCKING SHIT in white serif, above graphic of continental US in yellow border containing photographic yellow fireball beneath red crosshairs graphic, above "Attack on America" in black serif font; on vertical black-to-white gradient background), and a fake TV schedule parodying the coverage.

- Ground Zero the area of the disaster recovery effort, covering Lower Manhattan around the site of the World Trade Center complex
- the pile the million-ton pile of rubble of the collapsed World Trade Center towers
from the US government
- Enduring Freedom name for US-led military response
- Infinite Justice original name for US-led military response, dropped after religious overtones were pointed out by a reporter at a press briefing
