2001 crash of American Airlines Flight 587

12 November 2001, at 09:00 local time, American Airlines flight 587 crashed into Queens, New York.

The plane carried 246 passengers and nine crew members.

The Airbus A-300 jet, which left [John F. Kennedy International Airport]? bound for a destination in the Dominican Republic, crashed shortly after takeoff. Several houses are burning.

It is not confirmed whether this another terrorist attack (See September 11, 2001 Terrorist Attack).

The BBC is reporting that very early indications are that it is not, and that engine failure was the cause.

President George W. Bush is scheduled to meet with advisors today. A senior administration official said there is no evidence it was a terrorist attack, and no threats were received.
