Na2B4O7 · 4H2O

Hydrated Sodium Borate Hydroxide. A colourless to white crystalline mineral.

Significant source of Borax? and boron compounds. Discovered in 1926 in Kern County, California (after which it was named) which was the only source for many years. Now it is also mined in Chile, Spain, and Turkey. More deposits are yet to be discovered, since this mineral is only found at great depths.
