Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

b. Lewis Alcindor, 1947 in New York, N.Y.

Professional basketball player. Played centre. 7' 2".

Despite being born in New York he went to UCLA. In his three season of college basketball the Bruins won three straight NCAA championships (1967-69). Kareem was MVP of the NCAA tournament and College player of the year for all three years.

He was drafted by the Milwakee Bucks, and in his first season he won Rookie of the Year. He went on to win a NBA Title (1971) and three NBA MVP awards (1971, 1972, 1874). Kareem was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers for the 1975-76 season.

At the Lakers he won three more season MVP awards (1976, 1977, 1980) and five NBA championships (1980-82, 1985, 1987-88). He retired in 1989.

He holds records for most points scored (38,387), most games played (1,560) and most blocked shots (3,189).
