[Home]Deprogramming

The practice of deprogramming means the removal of improperly implanted ideas from a person's mind. The premise of deprogramming is that a person, generally considered a victim of cult brainwashing?, has lost their freedom of mind.

Deprogramming, held to restore this freedom, entails restraining or incarcerating the victim and subjecting him to lengthy harangues until he recants his former allegiance. Success of deprogramming is often dependent on the person's agreement with the premise that he had formerly been a victim of [mind control]?, although some people give in (or pretend to) in order to escape the harangues.

To do: history, legal aspects

See: conservatorship?, cult
