The
Defenestration of Prague was an event central to the initiation of the
Thirty Years War in 1618. Effectively the
Bohemian aristocracy was in revolt, following the election of [Ferdinand, Duke of Styria]
?, a catholic zealot, to rule the empire. At
Hradcany castle on [23 May]
? 1618, a number of them took the Imperial governors and threw them out of the castle windows; neither of them was injured in the assault.
