In
Greek Mythology Artemis is the daughter of
Zeus and
Leto and the twin sister of
Apollo. She was the virgin goddess of the hunt, chastity, and paradoxically childbirth, since she assisted her mother in the delivery of her twin. Early in her devbelopment, she was identified with Hecate
?, the primal, pre-Olympian feral goddess. She later became more identified and eventually supplanted Selene
? as the moon goddess to compliment her twin's identification and supplantation of Helios
? as the sun god.
