The Apicomplexa are a large group of exclusively parasitic protozoa, characterized by a complicated apical complex at the anterior of the cell. Apicomplexans have a pellicle composed of alveoli, and this and other traits links them to the group called the Alveolates. Some diseases caused by Apicomplexans include Malaria and a form of pneumonia.
