Who owns Rolling Stone? Is it now just a corporate entity owned by Time Magazine? It would explain the disinfected content.

No, Rolling Stone is still owned by "Wenner Media", the company set up by the magazine's founder. I don't know if its publicly listed, or who owns shares.
