Pippin was the foolish, impulsive hobbit who often didn't seem to listen. ("Fool of a Took!" and "No one asked you to handle that" --Gandalf) He almost got the company killed in the mines of Moria, by throwing a stone down a deep well; the noise tipped off the orcs. With Merry, he helped rouse the Ents against Saruman. He picked up the orb of Palantír and then actually stole it out of Gandalf's hands while he slept. Later, he redeems himself by going to get Gandalf? when Faramir?'s father was going to burn him alive.

The idiocy of the Took makes the comedic relief of the book even more enjoyable.
