The GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) is a GPL program for creating and processing raster graphics (with some support for vector graphics). It can be used interactively, but, unlike most other graphical programs, is also fully programmable (currently in Scheme, Perl, Python and (experimental) Ruby). It can thus be used for CGI and in other non-interactive ways.

The program was originally designed for the X Window System running on Unix or GNU/Linux but has since been ported to Windows.

Its interactive interface deviates from the standard, but users quickly learn it.
Unlike most other similar programs, GIMP can be controlled from programs written in Scheme, Perl, Python and (experimental) Ruby,
allowing it to be used for CGI and in other non-interactive ways such as batch? color correction and conversion of images.
