The GIMP (
GNU
Image
Manipulation
Program) is a program for creating and processing
raster graphics (with some support for
vector graphics).
Its interactive interface deviates from the standard, but users quickly learn it.
Unlike most other similar programs, GIMP can be controlled from programs written in
Scheme,
Perl,
Python and (experimental)
Ruby,
allowing it to be used for
CGI and in other non-interactive ways such as batch
? color correction and conversion of images.
GIMP uses Gtk+ as its widget toolkit; in fact, Gtk was initially part of the GIMP.
GIMP and Gtk+ were originally designed for the X Window System running on Unix or GNU/Linux but have since been ported to Microsoft Windows.
[Spencer Kimball]? and [Peter Mattis]? started the GIMP project; it is now a GNU project licensed under the GNU General Public License.
