[Home]Sub-machine gun

A gun similar to a machine pistol. The use of either term seems to vary more according to location and dialect than to gun design, but "sub-machine gun" is slightly more often used for World War II models such as the Thompson and the Schmeisser, which come close to the definition of a carbine while "machine pistol" better describes more recent models such as the Uzi.
