One of the oldest German cities. Lies on the western side of the Rhein. The Romans under Julius Caesar subdued the Treverans in 58 to 50 BC. When the German provinces were reorganized in 16 BC, Augustus decided that a local village became regional capital. It was the called Augusta Treverorum.
