A language that originated in the region of Castilla, in Spain. The correct name should be, in fact, "castillian", but for ease of use it has been accepted as "spanish". It is a language derived from the Latin, therefore pertaining to the same family of languages as French, Italian, and Portuguese, to name a few.
The word Spanish can mean:

# From or related to Spain
# A Spanish(1) person or a speaker of Spanish(3), also called a Hispanic person.
# The Spanish language
