The Sega Game Gear was Sega's response to Nintendo's Game Boy. It was released in 1991 and was basically a pocket [Sega Master System]?, though it seemed to have arguably better graphics. However, despite its technical superiority, it did not gain a significant market share due to the enormous popularity of the Game Boy. It did have a few setbacks: backlit screen drained batteries faster than anything, it was huge, and the game variety was small. Today, the Game Gear is considered to be a failure.
