I remember reading that grues were not originally from Zork, but from a novel, though the adventure game is what made them well-known. Unfortunately I can't remember the novel's name. Anyone know?
According to the Jargon File, [Dave Lebling]? took the name from [Jack Vance]?'s "Dying Earth" fantasies, and the word is an archaic English verb meaning to shudder with fear. Beautiful! Shouldn't that go into the article? Yep... Just read the faux pas list and realised that. :-) 'Tis done! |
