Hernando Cortés, known as Hernán, was born in Medellin, Province of Estremadura?, Spain, to Martin Cortés and Catalina Pizarro Altamirano in 1485?. He died near Seville?, December 2, 1547?.

In between those events, he destroyed the Aztec? Empire and sired (literally) Mexico.

The Cortes is the name of the legislative assembly of Spain, and of Portugal. Several other nations, particularly in Latin America use the same name.
