Showing revision 7
The term Zealot, although today it means anyone who is overly zealous, originally referred to a Jewish movement in the first century CE that sought the overthrow of the Roman Empire in Judaea?.

The Zealots were also known in Latin as sicarii, "daggermen" (sing. sicarius), and some have speculated that the name of Jesus' disciple [Judas Iscariot]? is a corruption of this term - "Judas the Zealot".
