Showing revision 2
The first manned space flight. In April of 1961, Vostok 1 took Russian astronaut Yuri Gagarin into space, the first time anyone had ever journeyed beyond the earth's atmosphere. Gagarin orbited the earth and returned safely.

There have been rumors that other astronauts preceded Gagarin but died in flight, and that these missions were never reported by the Soviet military.
