U.S. Navy intelligence ship attacked by Israel during the Six Day War, killing many Americans. Israel insists that the attack was accidental; the Israeli explanation was accepted by the U.S. Government. But many believe that the Israelis attacked the ship on purpose; one possible explanation for this was to prevent the discovery of (alleged) Israeli war crimes in the Sinai. See
