A continent crossed by the equator, with most of its surface south of it. It's situated between the
Pacific Ocean and the
Atlantic Ocean It became attached to
North America only recently (in geological timescales). It was first inhabited by humans crossing the [Bering Pass]

Pacific Ocean.
Since the 16th century to the early 19th century, it was formed by colonies of mainly Spain and Portugal, now several republics compose it.
