The Saxons were a large and powerful Germanic tribe located in what is now northwestern
Germany and the
Netherlands. They, along with
Angles, Jute
?s, Frisian
?s, and others, invaded Britain in the Early Middle Ages.
The Saxons long avoided becoming incorporated into Charlemagne's empire and becoming orthodox Christians.
