English pronounciation is divided into two main accent groups, the rhotic and the non-rhotic. Rhotic speakers pronounce the post-vocalic r, while non-rhotic speakers do not.

Areas with a non-rhotic accent include the south-east of England (especially the Recieved Pronounciation), Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, the New England area of the United States, and New York.

Areas with a rhotic accent include Ireland, Scotland and most of the United States (excluding New York and the New England region).
