quotation is a fragment of a human expression that is being
referred to by somebody else. Most often an quotation is taken from the
literature, but also sentences from a speech, scenes from a movie, elements
of a painting, etc. may be quoted.
Proverbs and quotations have similar cultural influence, see the introduction at the proverb page. In case of extensive quoting from a work one need to consider copyright and fair use.
