Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia

Pneumosystis carinii pneumonia (PCP) is a form of pneumonia? which is caused by protozoa. It is relatively rare except among people infected with HIV, the virus which is believed to cause AIDS. In that population, it is a common immediate cause of death, and is one of the presenting factors that often leads to diagnosis of HIV.
