A British order of knighthood founded in 1818 by King George IV, to mark the British protectorate over Malta.

Knight Commander is the second rank. The other ranks are Companion (CMG, lowest) and Grand Cross (GCMG, highest)

Often given to senior civil servants and said to stand for "Call Me God", "Kindly Call Me God", and "God Calls Me God"
