OpenSSH stands for Open Secure Shell. It is a software package used for remote access to machines running the SSH server.

OpenSSH was created by the OpenBSD team as an open alternative to SSH, which is now a commercial product.

Some people believe that the openness of the source code enables the product to be more secure than proprietary products, although they seem to forget that the source is available for the commercial products too...
